Mental health disparities disproportionately affect Black and brown individuals, who often experience more severe, persistent, and debilitating forms of mental illness due to unequal access to quality care. The higher burden of mental health challenges in Black and brown communities, especially, is often linked to systemic factors like economic inequality. Unfortunately, without access to psychiatric support, individuals may experience increased exposure to trauma and stress, which can lead to negative alterations in their overall well-being. Seeking psychiatric support is a normal part of healthcare and should not carry the burdens of shame or high cost. It is possible to find quality, affordable psychiatric care, and reaching out is a sign of strength, not a weakness.
We are working to make psychiatric care accessible and affordable for everyone. Mental well-being is for everyone, and we can work to remove both the high costs and the social stigma that stand in the way.
Our TCM team will act as a liaison between you and your various service providers, improving communication and preventing duplication of services.
Our Case managers will speak on your behalf to ensure that your needs are being met and that you are receiving the best possible care and services. We will connect you with essential resources, including medical care, vocational training, assistance with food stamps, housing, and disability and IEP services, to help you and your family achieve stability.
Center for Family and Child Enrichment provides Mental Health assessments to determine what services are the best fit for each individual. A licensed therapist will assess the client to establish appropriate levels of care based on information ascertained in the bio-psychosocial assessment utilizing evidence based tools.
Addiction affects everyone in the family and can affect them for the rest of their lives. Family members can become stressed or anxious when dealing with a person using and may also experience feelings of loneliness, frustration, despair, anger, shame, or guilt. It is not uncommon for them to feel powerless and that all hope is lost. When someone in the family has an addiction, the whole family usually develop ways to cope with the problems the addiction causes. A parent’s preoccupation with getting drunk or high can lead to neglect or abuse. The use of alcohol and drugs can lead to financial hardship, poverty, or bankruptcy. Often, there is less communication: the family doesn’t talk about it or show how they feel. They may keep the addiction secret from other family and friends. Some family members take on some of the responsibilities the person with an addiction has stopped doing, or may provide financial support to the family member with an addiction. Substance misuse and addiction affect individuals and families on every level—emotional, psychological, financial, and social.
Living with a person who has an addiction isn’t easy. By seeking external support through a support group facilitator or Therapist, individuals and families can develop the skills to face life’s obstacles and build a foundation for sobriety.
Our substance abuse treatment team will develop a plan based on your current stage of recovery (this plan will be reviewed monthly to ensure that we are on the right track and that you (or your child) feel empowered every step of the way. This also helps to minimize any potential relapse). To help you get started, we will pair you with an Individual Substance Abuse Therapist, a Substance Abuse Group Therapist, and a Nurse Practitioner who will meet with you regularly to review your progress. The entire team will be behind you and rooting for your recovery.
This program uses the court-approved Nurturing Parenting Curriculum. It helps families navigate the challenges of parenting adolescents by providing strategies to improve communication, build stronger relationships, and support teen development. It also teaches parents how to adapt to their teen’s increasing autonomy while setting clear boundaries and fostering mutual understanding. Some topics covered include: nurturing communication strategies, negotiation and compromise, setting reasonable limits, recognizing and understanding each other’s needs, understanding adolescent development and increasing personal power, self-esteem and self-concept. Parents/caregivers and adolescents meet separately for the beginning of the group, and then meet together for parenting and communication skills activities. Food and prizes are given out during each session.
